- Description
- Hydrogen (H2) is contemplated as one of the most auspicious, clean, non-toxic, and high-energy content fuels. However, a perfect system for the generation and storage of hydrogen at near ambient conditions still needs to be researched and developed for practical applications. Nanostructured materials are often seen as one of the favorite contendcation, suitable tailoring of the physicochemical features, porous characteristics, and manipulation of the surface with desired moieties are a few of their intriguing properties for hydrogen generation and storage. These two aspects of the hydrogen sector are focused upon in the first two sections of this book chapter. The emphasis is laid on reported novel materials in the category of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), carbons, zeolites, carbon nitrides, metal-containing/metal devoid for the efficient generation and store of hydrogen. Further, one of the highly anticipated use of hydrogen as a fuel is its application in fuel cells, in which, the oxygen reduction reaction is an important component that involves the reaction of hydrogen with oxygen at the cathode to produce water and energy. Different nanostructured catalysts employed for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are discussed in the third section of this book chapter.
